The Saskatchewan Summer Games are set to get underway on July 24 in Estevan and on Thursday night, a rally was held for Humboldt's region.

Team Prairie Central invited fans, supporters, parents and the athletes to Lanigan for a two hour presentation and celebration.

Stephanie Cuddington is the Executive Director for Prairie Central Sport, Culture and Recreation. She says that the rally is important to have.

"This seems like the bigger thing than the games, because you bring the team together and they get their outfits and you talk about the games, and you've done all your prep work for this night," she explained. "When you go to Estevan, yes it's huge, but someone else is taking care of all of it and the districts fall in to place and provide support to our team."

Over 200 athletes and coaches will look to help bring back medals for Prairie Central, with 27 of them coming from Humboldt.

Cuddington says that this is their chance to showcase their ability.

"This is the provincial showcase, multi-sport, it's a unique opportunity and like a mini-Olympics," she noted. "This is maybe as far as some of those kids will go. Others will go on to bigger and better things."

Athletes will compete in 13 sports throughout the six days of the games, including archery, athletics, baseball, basketball, canoe, equestrian, golf, softball, soccer, swimming, tennis, triathlon and volleyball.

Cuddington had a final message for the athletes.

"Wish our teams the best, have a good week, have fun, be proud of who you are and who you represent."

The games officially open at 7:00pm on July 24 with Opening Ceremonies. The Closing Ceremony takes place at 4:00pm on July 30, which will pass the torch to North Battleford for the 2018 Winter Games.
