Outside in the elements, hobbyist photographers can learn more about taking photos at night, as the Humboldt and District Gallery hosts photography lessons.

Ray Whitton is going to lead the two and a half hour session on Thursday night, and as he says, you don't need to be a pro to show up.

"The event itself is designed more for the casual photographer or maybe somebody who is just getting in to photography, and more specifically, night photography," he explained. "We're going to spend an hour in class, nothing too crazy, just going over some of the things that night photography focuses on."

Following the in-class session, which begins at 8:00pm, the fun begins in the great outdoors.

"The best part is by the time you leave the class, we're going to head out to Prairie View, and we're going to take some photos of the night sky, and we should be able to get some stars and fun stuff on our first try," Whitton noted.

"It's an opportunity to give it a go and have some fun."

One aspect of photography that many mistake, is, that you don't need a top of the line camera to work with to capture stunning photos.

Whitton mentioned that he will prove that with the camera he will be using.

"I'll be bringing a $200 dollar camera just to show that you don't need to be somebody with a really expensive camera. You just have to be willing to soak up some information and have some fun."

He added that for optimal use, you should bring a camera with manual controls, and he recommends an extra battery as well as a flashlight.
