Lucien Lake Regional Park hosted their annual fishing derby on Saturday in Middle Lake.

The event has been taking place for many years, Secretary/Treasury Irene Giesbrecht talks about the history, "it's been a number of years probably 20 plus years. It used to be a lions club job and now its gone onto the lake."

Giesbrecht tells us how the day starts. "The fishermen went out at 1 o'clock and they get to fish until four, then we figure out who caught the first fish, the largest fish. Hopefully we do a little better then last year we caught zero fish."

The event has done well for the group in the past and they hope to raise "between three to five thousand." This year the money will go to help repair the lions booth at the lake.

The evening wraps up with a shuffleboard challenge that has been going on for about four years.

The group is happy to have the new hall facility and they look forward to the baseball tournament coming up in July for Canada Day.
