A generous donation was provided to Saskatchewan Food Bank's from Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan.

The mining giant has once again matched the funds donated by the people of Saskatchewan resulting in their sixth $1 million dollar donation.

Over the course of the past six years, PCS and the Saskatchewan residents have continued to show their support of the province's 29 food banks raising more than $15 million.

“Year after year, people do not hesitate to step up for the province’s food banks, which are an invaluable part of the food security network in Saskatchewan,” said Wayne Brownlee, PotashCorp Chief Financial Officer in news release. “This cause is close to our hearts at PotashCorp and we are grateful that so many others feel the same way.”

Food bank use in Saskatchewan continues to increase with 45 percent of the people helped being children. Food banks have seen an increase of 51 percent between 2008 and 2015 according the hunger count report.

“Food banks across Saskatchewan offer their heartfelt thanks to PotashCorp for this amazing partnership and community leadership,” said Steve Compton, Executive Director of the Food Banks of Saskatchewan. “This support ensures that in communities large and small across Saskatchewan, food banks will continue to support families and individuals experiencing hunger and food insecurity."

Saskatchewan food banks not only supplies 28,000 people with food but also supports them through education programs, counseling and more.
