It was a simple community-minded team-up between the Wynyard Co-op and the Wynyard Composite High School that netted the school’s SRC and athletic programs a cool $2,500.

Students at the high school had the opportunity to sell Co-op gift cards while recouping a portion of the proceeds. High School SRC advisor Jana Fisher explains.

“We had our students sell $50 and $100 gift cards. Tessa Jordan was the person who headed this up. With this, if we sold $25,000 dollars worth of gift cards, the Co-op would give us ten percent, and that’s how we ended up with the $2,500.”

That money was split between the school’s SRC and its athletic programs. The plan also provided consumers with the incentive to shop locally at a store where they would undoubtedly be spending money.

Fisher called it a “no-brainer” when it came to the partnership, “I spend a hundred dollars at the Co-op, so if I get a hundred dollar gift card, it’s no different than spending a hundred dollars cash.”

While the Wynyard Co-op has participated in the gift card fundraiser with other community groups, this is its first partnership with the school. It’s an arrangement that works out very well for each of the partners.
