The area of Watrous-Manitou has a long history and there is a place where you can go and see it all.

The brand new Watrous-Manitou Beach Heritage Centre.

1909 was the beginning of the long history of the once "boomtown" four years after the province of Saskatchewan came into existence the town had a population of 659 which then increased to 1857 in 1982.

Watrous-Manitou has a long history of working together and bring people to the area.

The new Heritage Centre tells the stories of the people.

One of the members Lionel Sproule spoke about what the original idea was for the building.

"We really didn't want to have a museum as such we wanted to have a heritage place where we could remember the people as much as anything from our past and present and so forth."

There are about 5 to 6 stories about Manitou Beach and there are about 4 to 5 stories about the town of Watrous.

The history itself goes back quite far including some First Nation's artifacts.

The amount of time and money that has gone into the project is large, it has been a work in progress for eight years and approximately $450,000.00 to $500,000.00 in monies needed to date.

The Centre is located right next to the Post Office on Main Street and upstairs above some other businesses.

The hours of operation at noon until 5:00 pm and the fees are $7.00 for an adult and $3.00 for children.
