Broncos ride three-game win streak into final weekend of homestand
The Humboldt Broncos will finish off their five-game homestand this weekend with two games. On Friday, they will meet the Nipawin Hawks for the first time in the 2025-26 SJHL season. The next night will see the Flin Flon Bombers make their final visit of the season. It’s been a successful start to the stretch of home games for the Broncos with three wins, beginning with a pair of wins where the green and gold scored six times, on October 11, they defeated the Battlefords North Stars 6-0, and then they beat the La Ronge Ice Wolves 6-1 on October 17. This past Tuesday saw the Broncos pull off a thrilling 5-4 win over the Kindersley Klippers in a shootout. Humboldt was trailing by a pair of goals late in the third period, but a pair of goals from Rylan Hue and Jeter Korte forced overtime. Connor Miller scored the lone goal in the shootout as Nick Kotai turned away all three shots. Jacob Strizzi extended his goal-scoring streak to seven games as he ended up with three points for the night (1G-2A). Strizzi reclaimed top spot in the SJHL as the league’s point leader with 22 (15G-7A). The rest of his line enjoyed a big night with Korte and Miller each collecting a pair of points (1G-1A). A couple of changes to the Broncos lineup tonight as Kristian Lacelle is out and Sheldon Alexander is back in the lineup. On the blueline, Ben Fofonoff is in, while AJ Paulsen is out. The Nipawin Hawks have enjoyed a strong start to their season with an 8-3 record. Following a tough southern swing against Estevan and Weyburn where the Hawks were outscored 13-3, Nipawin rebounded with a 7-3 win against La Ronge on Tuesday night. Ashton Tait leads the Hawks in scoring with 13 points (4G-9A) with Konnor Watson leading Nipawin in goals with 8 on the season. If you head down to the Elgar Petersen Arena tonight you won’t have to worry about missing Game 1 of the World Series with the Toronto Blue Jays and LA Dodgers on the video screen during the first and second intermissions of tonight’s game.
